Elvish Poem: An Gurth Aranwaith

A translation of One of Tolkien’s poems.

At Théoden’s Death

Original English by J. R. R. Tolkien

Avo nínio1 hí! Beleg i ben dhannen,
Maer i vethed dîn. Ir i gum dîn orthannen,
Biss níniar. Auth cân hi ammen!

Mourn not overmuch! Mighty was the fallen,
Met was his ending. When his mound is raised,
Women then shall weep. War now calls us!

Reconstructed Words:

1. Nínia-
To weep. Reconstructed from NEI and “níniel” in the Etymologies.

I used the Gondorian dialect (note the errors in mutation) because this is a poem for and about humans.
